Hongshan National Archaeological Park was built on the Hongshan Site.ShareThe discovery of the Hongshan Site was a complete unveiling of the burial rules for aristocratic tomb complexes of the Yue Kingdom dating back over 2,000 years ago, particularly during the period between the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC) and the Warring States Period (475-221 BC). Tombs are grouped into four categories according to their sizes, which reflect four different hierarchy levels. The size and complexity of the burial chamber structures and the quantity of unearthed artifacts crown the site as top among large ancient tombs in Zhejiang and Jiangsu regions. In addition, more than 100 mounds in different scales are also found there, distributed in a seven-kilometer range between the Bodu and Jiuqu rivers, which was the first discovered noble graveyard of the Yue Kingdom in the Taihu Lake basin.
Hongshan National Archaeological Park was built on the Hongshan Site. The core zone of the park is the Hongshan Site Museum built on the remains of the Qiucheng Mound. The only heritage museum themed around remains from the Spring and Autumn Period in China, it offers outstanding exhibitions of the local unearthed cultural relics, the Qiucheng Mound Site and the culture of the ancient Wu and Yue kingdoms in two major display halls and four side zones.
